Common Questions:
What fish are biting in Lake Buchanan?
The diverse waters of Lake Buchanan are teeming with a variety of sought-after catches, including striped bass, largemouth bass, and more. Captain John Young, your premier Lake Buchanan fishing guide, can expertly navigate these waters, ensuring an unforgettable fishing experience tailored to your preferences.
What is the best bait for Lake Buchanan?
Well, Captain John Young uses various styles & techniques - depending on the season, weather conditions, temperatures, etc... Here are a few of the styles:
Live Bait - He mostly uses live shad. When the water temperature gets a little warmer, we sometimes “Flat-line” in shallow water. Flat-lining is trolling live shad very slowly in shallow water. This is only one of the many methods of fishing with live bait.
Cut Bait - Mostly dead cut-up shad. You can catch stripers using this method at certain times of the year. If you are in the right location on the lake this is one of the best methods to catch stripers, hybrid stripers, white bass, and catfish – sometimes very big catfish.
Downriggers - Trolling jigs with trailing plastic tails. Control-depth fishing or downrigging is another method he uses to catch stripers. Depending on the time of the year this method usually yields some of the largest fish of the year.
Jigging - Bouncing (jigging) spoons off the lake bottom. Usually during the colder months, you will use jigging spoons to catch stripers instead of bait or lures. If the conditions are right, jigging can catch more fish than any other means.
